Since this is the composition of the main theme for a project still in the filming phase, the creative process was far from conventional.
Together with the director, we sought a blend of sonic styles in the documentary that would match the diversity of formats and characters. For the main theme—which would appear during the shared moments between the protagonists and in the teaser—we both agreed that orchestral instrumentation would be the most suitable choice.
Based on the footage we already had and the ideas I gathered from reading the project dossier, I began working on the concepts I wanted to convey through the music. My initial intention was to create melodic leitmotifs for each character, but given the large number of protagonists, I feared ending up with too many independent ideas. Instead, I decided to compose a piece whose sections would evoke emotions that all characters might share. This way, the leitmotifs would be emotion-based and could later be developed through varied instrumentation or sonic textures depending on each character or the visual style of the scene.
The musical piece is structured in several emotional sections. It begins with a sense of instability and disorientation, evolves toward themes of motivation and longing, and contrasts with more dramatic and reflective moments. The work culminates in an orchestral tutti that conveys a powerful sense of unity and emotional resolution.
